Adam (Man in Hebrew) was made from the dust of the Earth (Adamah in Hebrew). Eve was made from the rib of Adam (Eve, originally Isha, and means ‘from man’)
The Genesis story is not an original unique description of Mans beginnings, but one whole made from many diverse fragments written throughout antiquity and amalgamated sometime after the return of the Jews from the Babylonian captivity.
Adam and Eve are symbolic representations of the Human Condition. Their ‘Birth’ – as it were- in the Garden of Eden symbolises Humanity’s beginnings as being one and part of the animal kingdom. Eve’s eating from the tree of good and evil, symbolises Humanity conscious awakening, one that is referred to as humanity’s incarnation, the ‘Spark’ that differentiated humanity from the animal. Thus the Human body becomes the Trinity of incarnation, The Body, The Mind and the Soul. Adam and Eves consequent removal from Eden is inevitable; for once the divine spark (Soul) enters matter it can no longer exist in an ethereal plane. The removal also explains and symbolises mankind’s move from Hunter Gatherer to Farmer and Shepherd. The whole story is given in explanation for the suffering of mankind (Genesis 3:15)
The Human conscience does indeed suffer existence, it feels the loss, emptiness and distance from the Eternal Essence, and thus loneliness and heartache follow.
It was not until the exegesis of Anselm of Canterbury, Maximus the Confessor, and Augustine of Hippo, that the Origen and Doctrine of the Original Sin was devised from Genesis, this is truly one of Humanity’s most dire errors and one that affects the human conscience throughout the ages and will lead inevitably to our destruction from those insisting that we must pay atonement for this, incomprehensible dogma.
Genesis is a compromised version of earlier Myths taken from the Egyptian mythologies * and written in the 8th Century BCE by an Author in the Southern Kingdom of Judah. Scholars call him ‘J’ for he refers to and names his Deity “Yahweh”. After the destruction of the Northern Kingdom of Israel, the Southern and Northern Genesis stories were joined, and we now have the work of the author referred to as ‘E’ for he calls his Deity Elohim. This JE document became the founding story of western history & Culture. (A Case 4 God) This document was then interpolated by the later Deuteronomists, thus adding the influence of the ecclesiastical Author ‘P’. So we know that there were at least three Authors of the Pentateuch all of whom wrote in different times and settings, but most importantly, all based on their relative beliefs of their times.
From a spiritual modern view:
We should look at Adam and Eves Lives in Eden (Their Nirvana) Where Evil does not exist anywhere in their minds, they are not even aware of their nakedness or their individuality and there is no need for questions, just peace, tranquillity and joy; this is what life should be!
For as the Author of Johns’ Gospel implies
John 3:12-15
12If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness; even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:12-15, represents the Christology myth of Massey’s ideology; such as John’s reference to the Christ as the living divine spirit of God within us i.e. the Soul (Conscience), as seen in verse 13: ‘and no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven...’ This Verse stipulates that no man can enter and become one with the Eternal Essence, unless he is man and spirit (spark), the man being of flesh and the spirit being the divine essence. This emanates from the ancient myth that the universal high God fractured his essence, which he let fall to earth for the good of man, for man was once on a level with other animals or primates, until this act gave him a soul (conscience).
The Bible Is an Esoteric guide to the Human condition and its interaction with nature. Christ – as in Jesus- is not the embodiment of the divine within one historical figure, but instead the literary characterization of the Human spirit within the flesh.
The bible begins with the story of Genesis, a story that taken literally is preposterous to the intellectual, but taken in the esoteric form suddenly gives you an idea of the first humans and their awakening from the animal to the human condition, from naivety and ignorance to the enlightenment of life, being and environment. What must it have been like, to suddenly be aware; as the consciousness came to life?
